INTRODUCTION

The evaluation of a compressed air system consists of a complete analysis of the network of compressed air distribution and of the pneumatic elements existing in a manufacturing or processing plant. It is helpful for an easy detection of faults and for the execution of corrective, preventive and predictive maintenance, and for improving the operation of devices, machines and processes, thus saving in the power (kW) required for compressed--air production, which finally helps to diminish the operative costs and to prolong the life utility of the compressor and all the pneumatic elements.

The optimization of the compressed air network requires the best air supply at a constant pressure, a flexible design, a good quality of air, and an economic application.

To obtain the previous conditions the following steps are due to follow:

· Suitable sizing of the pipe to diminish the pressure losses.
· Elimination of compressed air escapes.
· Suitable maintenance of the network, the compressor and the pneumatic devices.
· Change the work pressure to the possible minimum (technical and economic).
